First Christian Church was the setting of a beautiful wedding for Pyin and Minh on Sunday Aug 21. they are Montagnards for the Central Highlands of Vietnam. It was wonderful to see their family and friends from all over NC having such a fun day. Although dancing is not one of their customs they do love to sing and people lined up to sing solos and a few duets with the band.
The Montagnards helped the American troops during the Vietnam War. They helped hide and protect them and fought along side of them. I have a friend who claims that every time the Montagnards helped the Americans won.
They are still being persecuted today for being Christians. Many of these families have come to America as refugees and some still have family in Vietnam who are being hunted and hounded by the government because of their beliefs.
First Christian is home to more than 54 Montagnards who participate in the full life of the church. They feel very blessed to be home to people who have come so far to enjoy the freedom we take for granted.
